Name: Dominic Benoult
BD: 10/11/1938
Age: 73
Status: Pureblood
Occupation: French Minister for Magic
Characters who RP this NPC: Fifi LaRoux, Marty Harper
Eye Colour: Grey
Hair Colour: Grey
Appearance: A kindly looking man Dominic is thin and 'springly' seemingly being of endless energy (or at least in the public eye) and more then a few 'pick me up' potions over the years. While it's said that the years have been for the most part kind there's no doubt that it has more to do with a careful selection of fine suits and robes then a matter of mere 'chance'.
Personality: Dominic is a keenly reserved man, a former head of the French Auror Department he's been though, seen and often knows much more then he's willing to let on. To his children and detractors Dominic is considered aloof, uncaring and self-indulgent, too focused on the 'bigger picture' to care of matters closer to home. There's no question that quite a few careers have been made and broken on trying to explain the actions and mind of the French Minister, his personal habits being well known for exuberant parties and constant travel abroad - often in the company of the young and ever so female Fifi LaRoux. His Centralist Party in the Ministry of Magic has been known for pushing unity both in the EU and for Muggle and other-species relations with France being the first to give vampires full equal rights in the law. A elder statesmen of the Magical World Dominic has so far managed to capture the younger audience though his popularity and 'candor' made famous though interviews on local and international broadcasts in the Magical World.
History:
Born in the city of Marseille to Yvette and Gaubert Benoult Dominic comes from a long and well respected line of Pureblood French Wizards native to the lands since 600bc. It is said that even from the beginning the Benoult's have had their hands in the rich political landscape from advising Kings to the formation of the first Guild of Magic Practitioners who would one day become the modern day French Ministry of Magic. The Benoult name long becoming a mark of respect to those both in-and out of the know of the magical arts. However Dominic was not born to a world of peace and against the wishes of some his family chose to abandon Marseille in 1940 for war was upon it..and indeed they did just in time for no sooner had they settled in England then the city was occupied by Germany.
Deciding that it would do their son well Dominic remained in England, attending Hogwarts while back home his Father managed to seal a deal for Italy, East and West Germany to repay in money for the lives and damage they had caused to the city their family had called home. While his father, a former Minister renowned for his sharp voice and uncanny political maneuvering was well known for the most part Dominic was an unremarkable young man who took to his studies with care and was never one to stand out in a crowd. Indeed most of his Professors did agree that he was quiet but hard working, and seemed to have a natural affinity for a career in the Ministry of Magic. So it did surprise his colleges that Dominic chose to focus his attention to gaining a position in the Auror Department, unaware that they where of the Auror Department being a natural stepping stone to advancement in the Ministry itself.
It seemed a good time to be a Auror and at 21 Dominic returned home to France to marry his childhood sweetheart Inès d'Esnambuc which came as no suprise to anyone seeing as Inès had been betrothed to Dominic since the age of five as part of a settlement between the two bloodlines. A doting husband the pair where blessed with four children before the onset of the First Wizarding War threatened to overrun Europe in it's entirety. Like many young wizards Dominic joined in the service to fight the dark followers of Lord Voldermort under the belief that his wife and children would remain safe in France.
Little did anyone know just how far Voldermorts influence had spread. His father, a staunch supporter of the Ministry of Magic and vocal opponent of Lord Voldermort who publicly likened the man to the Muggle Worlds Hitler who had done such evil to his land was the first to fall. Death Eaters seemingly taking pleasure at the destruction of his name, even to the point of using his own wife against him. Dominic of course was unaware, apart from the grief at losing his father he didn't notice when his loving wife slipped Baneberry poison into his wine while under an imperius curse. Alas on that day his wits where faster then his heart and Dominic did not know what had happened until his loving wife did collapse to the floor after taking toast of the poisonous brew.
There are stories still told to today of the vengeance of Dominic's wrath, while in England the Order of the Phoenix did rise in France it was the name of one man that did put a tremble in the heart of Death Eaters, as the new Head of the Auror Department Dominic found the shadows and strategy did give him the challenge his life had sorely lacked in youth. There was little time for mourning or for his children as he learnt the arts of politics to become the youngest Minister of Magic at the tender age of 42 which he has managed to hold though a force of will, good luck and careful management - not the least helped by his name, 'war hero' status though his guidance of the French Ministry of Magic during the 2nd Wizarding War and being the most popular Minister for Magic in over a decade.
