The Rules

The Rules and Procedures of how things are at Wizards Without Boundaries
*Please note that we are still in the process of writing up the rules and so more may be added as time progresses.Registering.
Please Register under your Character's Name ala Bruce Bingsley and not Sunnygrl263
Canons.
While we are set in the universe of Harry Potter we do not accept Canon characters ala Harry Potter nor relatives of Canons.
We're interested in what you can come up with, not what JKR already has!
Transfer Characters.
Have a character from another site? Maybe they've gotten too old to fit into a school site or for one reason or another found themselves without a site to call home. We know your pain and supply fast-track status to transfer characters right up to auto-approval of powers and abilities that are compatible with our rules and potterverse of course.
Real Life Characters? Register them as a Muggle
Xman/Marvel Universe? Consider a Magical Ability
Vampires/Were's? Check out our Species Information
If we don't have it or your not sure Contact Admin or drop a note in our chatbox and we'll see what we can do.
Multiple Accounts.
Members are allowed to have more then one character, it's a big world and all the better with a wide range of people to fill it.
Currently there are no limitations on the number of characters that may be registered from the get go, we allow a unlimited number of transfer characters although we prefer diversity and may suggest character adjustments from time to time to help keep the world balanced.
In addition each main account may have up to 3 registered NPC accounts that consist of family members, close friends or other key people in their lives.
We do ask you to be sensible about multiple characters, while we do not currently have activity requirements it is important to consider the other people your roleplaying as to if you are able to keep up with additional load of another character.
Faceclaim.
A Faceclaim is a person chosen to portray your character, in a sense if the world was a stage they would be the best choice of a actor to play them.
To this sense while faceclaims are not required they often become a key part of a character though artwork and graphics and so for realism we ask for them to be within 10 Years of your Character's Age (or 8 Years for Teens/Children).
Because the world consists of more then movie stars and models we love to see interesting and lesser known faces, however to balance privacy we do require all faceclaims to be well known enough to have a wikipedia entry and their age publicly available.
Some great resources of finding faces are IMDB, Last.FM and of course Google
Rated PG - Parental Guidance Recommended for Persons Under the Age of 15
Wizards Without Boundaries is rated PG for adult themes, low level course language, supernatural themes, horror, medium level violence, sexual references, drug use, and some scenes may frighten small children (mostly the ones with Honey).
G Threads: For Younger Members we supply G rated Threads, you will see a //G RATED// added to the title and special post icon. G rated threads are safe for young members.
M Rated Threads: For Older Members on occasion we will allow //M RATED// Threads that carry the MA15+ Icon. They can contain drug use, heavier coarse language, adult themes, horror, and higher levels of violence and some gore.
R Rated (18+) Threads: Graphic Sex/Nudity, Ultra-violence etc. are now allowed, sorry guys but we need to keep to our terms of service! All Images on site (and in our Polyvore group) must also be PG Rated.
our terms of service states the following must be respected at all times:
You cannot use the products and services, or associate them to any content or activity which might be harmful to the any individual person's private rights :
Contents which are illegal, harmful, threatening, improper, slanderous, vulgar, obscene or ethically reprehensible
Content which disclose personal datum that could identifies children under age of 18 or which exploit the images.
Members who intentionally break the terms of service will receive warnings and on repeat offenses may be banned (so lets just not do that eh?).
Godmodding
Godmodding is the process of writing something that assumes, controls or breaks reality by forcing another member's character into a situation where the member has no choice in how to rp their own character.
These are for example (but not limited to):
Directly controlling another character - Y Stating what X character is doing
Brian walked up to Bruce and slapped him in the face with a large haddock before watching with evil glee as Bruce fell into the river.
Implied control - Y writing something where X is implied to have done or to do something
Brian walked up to Bruce and slapped him in the face with a large haddock knowing that it would cause Brian to fall into the river.
Limited options (Borderline Godmodding)- Y putting X into a situation where they are forced into only a small set of roleplay options.
These are all unacceptable. You may only state what another character is doing IF you have permission to by the other member (or a admin in the case of a member being inactive).Brian walked up to Bruce and slapped him in the face with a large haddock, walking away he heard a splash and chuckled to himself evilly.
Reverse Godmodding - X always comes out on the good side of every situation
Reverse godmodding the process where a character never is the one to lose in a situation and instead will always show up the other.Bruce ducked the swinging fish and tipped a bucket of raw prawns all over Brian "HA!" he said "That will show ya mate!"
This is just as bad!
It's important to strike a balance, not everyone will come up on top in every situation!
Often these problems can easily be sorted by asking first if it's okay to godmod such-and-such. While often the answer is yes it's always better to do the right thing then get yourself into trouble.. and if your not sure and don't have time to ask, be vague and let the other member fill in the gaps.
Dispute Resolution
Things don't always work out perfectly, sometimes trouble occurs and most often in roleplay it's the drama 'behind the scenes' that can boil over and ruin the fun for everyone.
Here at Wizards Without Boundaries we have a built in dispute resolution system along with rules and standards for behavior to ensure everyone the right to roleplay without worry.
To this end we expect Members to be polite, reasonable and courteous when dealing with disputes.
The following are some examples of how we prefer to resolve issues on Wizards Without Boundaries
Someone's Character said something and I want it edited!
- Okay, first off take a deep breath.
- Remember that while we all do get rather attached to our characters it's important to keep perspective that they are characters and like everyone not all of them are going to get along or think the best of each other.
- Now read over it again, was it in any way a godmodding? (read the previous post about Godmodding if your not sure)
Yes! *sniffle*
1. Okay, first port of call is to pm the member in question, be nice, often new members don't know about the godmodding rules and will make mistakes. Be nice, let them know what part of the post was wrong and most likely they will correct it.
They didn't or I don't feel comfortable contacting them for edits.. can you handle it pweese?
Of course! But we need to know what posts and what part of the posts you consider to be in issue.
The easiest way to do that is to report the post using the button on the top right side of every post. Alternatively you can email admin@wizardswb.com but remember to include proof and/or a link to what the problem is.
Once we receive a report we will double check the post to see if it's indeed godmodding and if so contact the member in question to edit.
No.. I don't think it was but I'm still upset!
Was the post in any way abusive, harmful, insulting or defamatory in such a way that was out of character or do you feel that the comments where more related to you then what was being roleplayed at the time?
If so report the post immediately!
Can't I just email/im you about it directly?
We prefer not to. For fairness and to respect members privacy we have a system in place where all issues are logged, that way when we follow them up we know what's happened previously. It also a way of helping us ensure that we don't unfairly favour one person over another and to protect us from he-say's-she-says sorts of arguments.
I'm afraid to say anything to because I'm worried it will single me out
Don't be! We take every members privacy seriously and will never share information without your permission.
What if I have a issue with a Admin?
If you feel a Admin is at fault it's all the more important to let us know directly so that we can investigate the situation and ensure it doesn't happen again. We're mature adults (well okay. maybe not 'always' mature) and can handle criticism.
In a situation where a Admin is involved the other Admin will deal with the situation to the best of their abilities to avoid a conflict of interest.
