Fight the Darkness
Tue Oct 11, 2011 4:12 am
Marty was not quite sure why he was there or even where there was. McQueen had called him into her office earlier that day and asked him to observe a protest that was going to take place that evening at the address on the notecard she handed.
"Fight The Darkness" the card read and while it sounded good, it could also sound very ominous as well. The confusing part was that Marty had no idea why he should observe it. Usually, McQueen sent him out to investigate strange occurences and find explanations. This time, she strictly wanted him to observe and note any thing that may or may not happen. Yes, very nice concise directions.... Not. However, Marty did not argue with his boss, not that it would have done any good. He had learned right from the beginning that it did not good, she always won. But he knew she was also fair and when he could prove his deductions and calculations, she was open to accepting them. Of course, that was probably because they both firmly believed there was always a reasonable and scientific explanation for all things.
All McQueen had told him was that the event had been advertised on a syndicated radio show and she wanted a fair and unbiased observer to bring back details of whatever happened. Perhaps after, there may be more investigation for him. So it was that Marty was now staring from his shelter in a doorway at some nameless, nondescript buildings across the way, waiting for a crowd to form. So far it had been fairly quiet.

Sometimes Benjamin really had to wonder just how aware his boss was of what was going on in the wider world. He knew Dunena never really paid that much attention to the Muggle politics of the day, which was hard when walking around the city it was hard to ignore the larger numbers of police wandering around wherever the sound of people shouting 'Occupy New York' and 'We are the 99 Percent' where soon found not after. Benjamin had never really been that interested in politics, he didn't mind hanging with the protesters for a free feed and to soak up some good vibes but as he checked his pockets again for his wallet and phone to make sure they hadn't gone missing he wondered if there wasn't some shewed genius to Dunena's plan to stage a protest right in front of the Ministry of Magic itself.. at a time when the NYPD would be too busy focusing on the much louder protests happening in Liberty Park.
Lighting a joint as he turned down the street away from the crowds to where the Ministry of Magic Dunena had never gone to setting a time for the event but Benjamin figured it was better to be early.. or well at least early for his perspective. One thing about being in control of the late night programming was that your days tended to always start at 11. Half way there his phone started vibrating and Benjamin rolled his eyes as he put it to his ear "Yeah.. Bjay here....what? wait.. slow down..." Benjamin stopped as he reached the end of the sidewalk. "Yeah I'm busy... working if you wanna know.. yeah well boss is throwing some kind of rally and youknow it's my job to make him look good" Had Benjamin looked over at that moment he might have noticed a man hiding in the shadows, but Benjamin was used to folks crossing the street at seeing him and didn't really feel like he had much to fear from strangers.. well ones outside of a police uniform of course! "Yeah.. it shouldn't run too late.. tell the kids I love them alright?" Of course Meg would tell him to say it himself. Benjamin didn't know what to say, women they where insane and everything had been getting worse ever since he'd landed the gig with Dunena and found themselves number one. He guessed it wasn't all that unlikely for Meg to get pissed off at him for outrating her own show, but then he'd hardly expected the boss to cause the waves of controversy that he had.
It had all been pretty clear from the outset that the whole thing was to make the guy feel comfortable and in charge. Who'd have known that he'd take to the job with such passion and all that? Of course it might have been a bit better if Benjamin hadn't ended up arriving to find the whole thing looking rather..quiet? So where was his boss anyway? Benjamin had assumed he'd have been given some instructions on the day, but with none seemingly forthcoming he shrugged and sat down on the steps to finish his joint as he waited for freedom of expression to happen.

Dunena, as always, woke up late as he was up late and did the show, walked into central park, hung out with some people and talked about occupy new york, whatever that was, and got high as normal. He had all most forgot that Fight the Darkness was on today which hit him like a ton of bricks at 5 am in the park and he had nothing to wear and no signs arranged. The guys in the park said all protesters needed signs so who was undena to go against the norm.
So back to his basement apartment in the magic district of the city rented under an alias, he had crafted signs for himself. Ted Billson, free lance reporter. Reporter made him laugh.
Dunena got ready with his usual cocktail of drugs to get him moving and lit up his smoke as he exited and began to head to the MoM to start the protest with the minimized sign in his pockets and a day or twos supply of all his best stuff just in case this thing took off. Dunena increased his pace and walked into the street that MoM was situated in to see, well nothing but a small group of people milling around the entry. Dunena was still a bit too off his face to notice Benjamin at first. He started to get the small signs out and resize them in the darkest cornor he could find and then stacked them to one side. Most demanded an inquiry to the MoM and some blank ones to allow the people to voice their own thoughts on the MoM and Frump the so-called leader of the AMoM.
He decide to to set up a stage and then get his man of many things, Benjamin, to get the portable gear so he could do a show from here and broadcast to the crowd, if there ever was one. It was as he stumbled while trying to find that dam cell phone he hated that he saw the man he was going to call. "Benjamin, get here I need things for the show," Dunena yelled since there was no need to say hi as this was work and Dunena need to get things started as he himself was late, not that he would ever say that to any one.
As he yelled some of the cloaked figures that were milling around turned to face him. Maybe they were here to protest. "Hey, you guys looking for me?" Dunena asked them deciding to just ask as he had never ran a protest before as he pulled the newly full size amp and mic out of the shadows he had them in. " Hello world" Dunena spoke into the mic
( OOC any thing said the the mic will be bold and underlined)

Anyone who saw Victoria McQueen on her way to the area near the New York offices of the Ministry of Magic, would have just taken her to be one of the many corporate women one sees in the center of New York City. In some ways, they would have been right. She was just as dedicated, determined, vicious and backstabbing as the rest of them, perhaps moreso.
It was why she had sent Marty Harper to observe, as well as a small collection of very well paid minions both magical and Muggle. She covered all her bases. The minions had their marching orders. Infiltrate the rally and do what it took to develop it into what would benefit Victoria McQueen. She allowed a cold smile to grace her lips as she disembarked the yellow cab and paid the fare. She would walk the rest of the distance to her vantage point where she could watch as events unfolded, wondering what Frump would think about all of this.
*************************************
Speaking of Ronald Frump, he was currently watching the actions of one Dunena Reid from the comfort of his conference room in his Ministry office. He was not a very happy fellow at the moment thanks to the irritations that one Mr. Reid had been providing for the past few weeks. However, he was very happy at the article that had appeared regarding evidence found at the scene of the fire. If that reporter went with circumstantial evidence, a certain hit wizard would be framed. For now, his concern involved the timing of this rally considering all that was currently going on in the Muggle world. For now, he was going to observe, Magical Law Enforcement on standby, in case.

"He'd better damn well not interfere with my exclusive!" Cherry Clinger groused to her cameraman as they set up in the room they had been shown to upon their arrival at the Ministry. If Dunena Reid's little rally publicity stunt screwed up her live broadcast that was an interview not only with the French Minister of Magic, Dominic Benoit but Fifi LaRoux, well, suffice it to say, Mr Reid might very well become a Ms. Reid by the time Cherry was done with him.
However, it was nearly time for Cherry's guests to join her, so she took some very deep breaths, which resulted in some very interesting viewing for any males that may be in the room and calmed down as the camera man began the countdown to live broadcast.
"3.. 2.. and go!"
"Hello Wizards, Witches and Muggles who know better! It's me, everyone's favorite hostess with the mostess, Cherry Clinger and welcome to my show. Tonight, I'm really excited and not just by that good looking dude I saw outside in a doorway on my way in. Tonight, I am honored to bring you Dominic Benoit and the Fabulous Fifi La Roux!"

There was a party going on......... well to be honest there was always a party going on when Fifi was around in public. Earlier the party had been contained to the French Consulate where the Minister had thrown a lavish party in celebration of... well nobody who attended had been particularly sure but with the wine flowing and music pumping there was no question whatsoever that the French sure knew how to throw a party. "Aoi, poor Ronald.. you know we should really have send him an invitation.." Fifi said before giving a wild laugh as she flopped against Mr Dominic Benoit..better known as Nicci to Fifi, a arm around his waist for support as the pair made a rather jangly progress though the halls of the American Ministry of Magic, laughter, a bottle of champaign and many a confused Ministry worker left looking on at the pairs antics. "So what do you say Nicci.. does poor Mr Frump get a invite next time?" There was a sharp 'thump' as the pair of them slammed against a wall. Laughing wildly it was hard for Fifi to remember that just a few days ago she'd been down and refusing to see anybody. Today she was very much up and nobody was going to ruin her fine time, not Ronald Frump, not Dunena Reid and certainly not the fear of bad press and headlines back home. She was Fifi LaRoux.. she made the headlines to stop any pesky questions about the French economic condition and the wisdom of linking the Gallon standard to the growing european debt crisis.
That was why Wizards where smarter then Muggles, Wizards knew not to build their fortunes on leprechaun gold.. or at least the smart ones did. Fifi had been disgusted at the numbers of ugly unwashed Americans who seemed to have multiplied on the streets since her last return to the states. Certainly things where dour when so many people carried cardboard signs and had to go on about shouting all the time. Fifi was sure that had she organized such a thing there would be better costumes, a proper sound system and entertainment along with far more fashionable and interesting people then those stragglers going on about how they where upset and middle class. Fifi knew the only way to fix that problem was to work hard and do whatever it took. But mostly it seemed people where more interested in just complaining.
With time running short Fifi gave Nicci a quick peck on the lips before sneaking into the bathroom to freshen up and check her makeup and hair for the camera. While there had been many who had claimed her style was more the work of a team of assistants the truth was that Fifi would hardly be much of a Hit Witch if she couldn't manage to put together a completely convincing costume at the flick of a wrist. "How do Ai look?" she asked Nicci as she stopped to pose at the door.
"fabulous darling.. now come we would not wish to leave our host waiting?" Fifi gave him a wide smile, while she didn't believe in love there was no doubt that nobody could make her feel quite so special as Nicci, nobody else knew her so well.. or really at all. Nobody.. well except for one strange brown little man who'd seen a side of her that Fifi hadn't allowed herself to quite come to terms with. But she'd hit a dead end in her search and had been forced to face facts that her current mission was far more important then any personal feelings she might have had towards a man she'd probably never see again anyway.
Either way it was showtime, and so checking that she was prepared and had everything Fifi gave Nicci a wink and placed one long nailed hand on his arm, elegantly the pair flowed into the room, bursting on the scene to the applause..be it real or only on their head. "Bonjour! It is so wonderful to be back in the United States and to have such a host!" Fifi wasn't what you'd call a genuine fan, but she respected another artist like herself who knew how to use clothes and her body for show. "Ai was just saying to Nicci here that it is so 'ard to find fashion in the wizarding world that is quite of the same class today and Mr Benoit insisted we couldn't leave Paris without bringing a gift". They where performing well, Fifi tottering slightly on her heels as she handed her wine glass to Nicci and swished over in a shimmy of gold to present a large black wrapped box to the host of the show as Dominic playing the gentleman to the extreme nodded and clapped to encourage the pair to play it up for the camera. Had it been Ronald Frump in his place no doubt it would have been a shameful controversy to be seen languishing around with two women in such a state, but he was Dominic Benoit..who'd seen the restoration of the Ministry after the war and with the help of one Fifi LaRoux (greatly exaggerated in the public eye) seen to the capture and prosecution of dozens of Death Eaters who would have otherwise gone unpunished for their crimes. It was easy to get away with just about anything when your own people saw you as a hero. "Now what was this Ai heard you say about a good looking ..what you call dude?" Fifi asked Cherry, pushing for laughs as she plomped herself down on Dominic's lap, kicking up her feet and sipping from a champagne glass. Oh yes Aunt-Fifi wanted to know, and wanted to know all.

Greta pleaded with her boss not to send her to the rally but Editor-in-Chief Terri Bright insisted only she could cover it and do it justice. That was the problem, Greta did not want to do the rally justice because it would mean having to get Frump's opinion on the event and she was not thrilled about having to tackle that aspect of it. For now, wand safely tucked up the sleeve of her cardigan, digital recorder in hand, and visitor pass clipped on appropriately, a ministry clerk was escorting her to the American Minister of Magic's suite of offices.
As she made her way, they stepped aside for a rather exuberant and dressed to the nines pair that, at first Greta did not recognize. Well, the female, she recognized the man right away, French Minister of Magic Dominic Benoit. Now that would be a facet to the story no one planned on and Greta tried to signal the minister for a chance to ask a few questions. One of the clerks escorting the pair explained quickly that they were on their way to a live interview with WWBN's Cherry Clinger but he would ask the minister if he and Ms. LaRoux would agree to meet with her after. Greta issued a quick thanks and took a last look at the woman who had been part of her recent investigative puzzle. No wonder she had not recognized her at first with her hair now gold as well as dress, shoes, well... Everything.
And from there, she headed to the interview with Ronald Frump, the recent meeting rolling around in her thoughts, something about it yelling to be recognized but not happening just yet.

Marty was not a stupid man and he had the degrees to back that up as well as plenty of common sense type smarts such as when he rescued a certain buried in the mud lovely woman in Australia that he seemed unable to forget about. Not that Marty had any false hopes that she would even remember him much after that. He had experience to remind him he was insignificant in the overall scheme of things, except maybe in his lab where things came together and research revealed hidden mysteries to him.
While Benjamin had not noticed Marty watching from his spot across from where the rally was to be, Marty did notice the guy as he chatted on his cell phone as most everyone did nowadays. Nothing out of the ordinary or mysterious about that so he continued to wait though Marty did notice it did seem like a few people began to stand near though more scattered than as a collective group. Nor could Marty miss hearing the shout to the guy now known to Marty as Benjamin, thanks to the volume of his friend, or at least Marty could only guess it was his friend since he had no way of knowing for sure. He did see that there seemed to be some equipment and Marty had to rub his eyes as it seemed to have come from nowhere but actually came from what appeared to be a nearby alleyway, again not uncommon for the city.
So far, nothing that Marty felt was of any scientific or SmokingLlama.com worth and yet again, he could only wonder why McQueen had sent him to observe. Surely anyone could have kept watch over a small attempt at a protest? As the second arrival now spoke into the mic, Marty watched as some of those gathered made their way over to find out what was going to be said. All Marty could do was wait where he was as well. He was fairly sure McQueen was home and comfortable or at some entertaining event.

It seemed to be quiet enough that finishing his joint Benjamin was left with little to do as he flicked the butt onto the concrete and decided to grab a drink. Returning a few minutes later with the days Global Voice and a piping coffee he smiled to see a small group of people had started to converge on the Ministry.. although of course it was hard to tell from a distance if they where here to protest or they where just a group of folks having a smoko at work... though as one came up to him and handed a package Benjamin's suspicions where raised as the man said it was from Smoking Joe. So much for his cheerful aim of sitting around reading the comics, sports and opinion pages. Instead he was left to mull over the package as he sipped away at his coffee and wondered if he was going to end up having to call Dunena.. or if the whole thing was some kind of sham. Glancing back to catch sight the guy seemed to have vanished. Nobody as far as he could tell saw him and there was no signs of Aurors that he could tell, a quick glance found that more then a few folks where holding books and quills, fans of the show looking for a autograph from the big man himself. Benjamin hadn't cared for that side of things, too many crazies so he liked being able to keep his head down and let the boss take all the attention.. as long as he didn't end up causing him to take the flack for it later.
There had already been a few not so happy memo's about that one, let alone the howlers.. even one cursed letter that had chased Benjamin around the sound booth trying to chomp him. He'd never expected his job to get dangerous but there was totally times when he had to wonder if he was going to make it to the next week. Mom still supported him, she'd said it was the best thing he'd done to help that Dunena Reid tell the truth after all the lies the government had been spinning. Mom believed everything the radio told her, Meg however was still nagging him to try and get his boss to cool it and keep his head down, for the kids sake of all things. Benjamin didn't know if it was the kids or ratings that where really the important thing but he always made the same promise that if the shit got too deep he'd get out.
Benjamin wasn't sure he'd be able to keep that promise though, it wasn't often you came across a boss who was 'cool' about well.. everything he did. Speak of the devil.. Benjamin looked up over his paper to notice a figure emerging from the shadows "Hey Man!" quickly folding up the paper and shoving it in a pocket he picked up his coffee and walked over to see what his boss had got going. "So what's the deal?" he asked Dunena, jogging a bit to catch up with him. Though it became obvious as he noticed the equipment Dunena had managed to get stashed to one side. "On it.." grabbing a couple of volunteers they quickly managed to pull together a bit of a stage, though why Dunena had insisted on bringing half the office was a bit beyond him. "We're good to go man.." he told Dunena as he handed out the last of the signs and handed out bits of cardboard and magic markers to the few insisting on them. Benjamin was quite pleased with the result so far as Dunena started talking to a small (but enthusiastic) cheer.. that was until his phone rung again. "Shit.. sorry boss..." Benjamin said quickly answering and ducking down the street a bit to better listen as Meg ranted at him though the earpiece.
"What.. WHAT? No I'm fu.. wait.. the Cherry Clinger Show?? No why the hell would I be working on that? I'm at the rally.. what?? The WWBN one.. youknow Fight the Darkness? What you mean you haven't heard of it?" Benjamin held a hand over the mouthpiece as he gave his boss a apologetic look.. well right up until Meg led the cat out of the bag. "What you mean it's the Cherry Clinger show broadcasting from the Ministry today? Who organized that?" he hadn't guessed that certain producers would be so hostile to the event as to do anything to sidetrack it, much as he liked Cherry it was rather sus to him to find out that she was doing a fluff piece on some European Minister while they where trying to get a revolution happening.. or something like that anyway. "Look I've got to go.... yeah well you do that...." he said hanging up on Meg before turning his attention back to checking the sound meters and keeping a eye out for cops, after all he was pretty sure Dunena hadn't gone for permits to set up his microphone and with the cops going hardline on all forms of civil disobedience at the moment there was no question they'd have no problem about stepping in and trying to arrest the lot of them even though they where on wizard property. Waving to get Dunena's attention he then remembered the package he'd been given earlier, trying to remain casual he handed it over "We've got trouble man, Smoking Joe gave me this earlier.. says it's about Frump.. and Meg says Cherrys got some kind of show going live from the Ministry today.. like right now.. with the French Minister and someone called Fifi LaRoux?" Meg had talked about her as if he should have known who the woman was, but Benjamin didn't follow woman's fashion. Had Meg mentioned the 'Crazy Bint who kept calling in' he might have known who she meant for sure and had a few choice words to say about her.

Dunena stood on the make-shift stage, mic in hand as he looked at the growing crowd of people in front of him in robes, Muggle clothes, and capes. Dunena was so unprepared and he had no idea what he was going to say. He really was good with words, most of the time but mornings were not his things and he was very close to his last hit. Man why do i arrange these things?
"Well, I am Dunena and welcome to this, our turn to fight back, to tell those in charge that we are here and that we want change! We want our leader to be accountable for where our world is heading and what they have done to take it there. We must raise our voices and tell them of our displeasure" Dunena yelled the last part in to the mic. "This building represents all the evil. In it sits those that pull the strings. We are the only ones that can take back the power. We are the power. We are all here to take it back. Our power. Our rights, Lets fight this darkness and tell Frump what you think," Dunena yelled to the crowd that was now nodding and starting to shout at the MOM building.
Dunena stepped back off the stage and looked at squib boy who had taken a call in the middle of this. Man, he was just lucky Dunena did not care too much about that as long as the sound made it out to the crowd of people. As he finished on the phone, squib boy handed him as package from Smoking Joe and then proceeded to tell him of Cherry's show going on inside. "Great that means we can be on both mediums and get the word out to more. Maybe i will go up there and tell them, too. Who knows."
Dunena walked back up on the stage to cheers but as he opened the package, Dunena almost fell over. It was a photo of Frump and LaRoux in a passionate embrace. He looked back over at squib boy. "Well, this is news worthy," he flash the photo to squib boy and continued. "Well, ladies and gentleman. I have some thing for you. My people, look upon this and have him say its not tru," Dunena held the photo high. "This is the man who would lie about about were his body lies from day to day. If he betrays his wife so what does he do to his people who he represents?" A cry from the crowd of 'down with Frump' rose from the group
"Let us bring down this hypocrite" Dunena cried to the crowd that had grown and was now reeling at Dunena's words as he jumped from that stage and pushed his way in to the MOM to the upper floors thinking
To the TV cameras and frump. Let out him to world

"Yes, the escargot is excellent, Maurice. Tell Pierre he has outdone himself this time," Victoria McQueen told the waiter from her vantage point on a neighboring roof, high above the rabble now clamoring to hear Dunena Reid's ramblings. She could see perfectly well from the small candle lit table, white table cloth and sparkling crystal on it as well. Of course, she also utilized her iPad to view the proceedings from strategically placed cameras around the MoM. The sly smile that appeared on her face as she watched the program manager pass the envelope to his boss spoke volumes to anyone who knew her secrets which was a grand total of one -- her.
Yes, she was quite pleased with the way things were going as Reid began to lead the people into the Ministry itself.
At least until she saw a figure come running out of the doorway across the way. A figure rather familiar to Victoria McQueen, who began ranting to no one in particular since at the moment, she was the only one on the roof, Maurice having gone to the catering van to retrieve the next course.
"What the hell is that idiot doing?" she almost screeched. "I told him to observe! What the......." she stopped midsentence as the audio on her iPhone picked up what that familiar figure was shouting, causing her to immediately text orders to one of her minions hidden in the mob. "Stop him! Any way you can! Whatever it takes. Stop.Him." she commanded as the audio continued to pick up the figure's shouts of
"THOSE PHOTOS ARE PHONY!"
"SHE'D NEVER DO THAT!"
"YOU'VE FAKED THOSE FOR YOUR.............."

Cherry honestly blushed at the praise from Fifi LaRoux for to any one versed in the Who's Who of the Best of the Wizarding World, few held a candle to Miss La Roux, at least in most within the wizarding entertainment and fashion fields. "Thank you, Fifi and you look absolutely perfect, as always," Cherry returned with true warmth. "And an honor and pleasure to see you as well, Minister Benoit!" Cherry greeted the gentleman though her eyes widened at the news that Fifi had thought to bring her a gift. "Why, I'm surprised and grateful," she began as she opened the box in her favorite color only to find the most gorgeous dress. "Oh my! Ohhhh my!" Cherry had to restrain herself from squealing. "It is beautiful and matching shoes! Fifi, you are truly perfect at picking out such beautiful fashion."
Cherry smiled as Fifi went on to ask about the dude she mentioned. "Oh someone I passed on my way into the ministry earlier. He was outside... Well, actually, maybe we can show you ... Donnie! Can you bring an outside view up on the monitor... That doorway across.. Oh perfect!" Cherry complimented her director as he brought up a view of the outside where the rally was going on. "Excuse the disturbance going on but one of the radio hosts apparently thought doing a live show would help his poor ratings," Cherry tried to gloss over the rally, not wishing to offend her guests and not realizing that the first thing that came up on the monitor was Dunena Reid holding up the photo from Smoking Joe. She pointed to a figure who for a moment was still in that doorway until he began running toward the rally going on. "That dude there. Kinda cute in a cuddly way!" she said grinning at Fifi while mentally plotting the hexes she was going to use on Reid, totally unaware that she had just located the one person Fifi had been trying to locate herself. Donnie added volume to the feed in to hear the voice of the dude yelling
"THOSE PHOTOS ARE PHONY!"
"SHE'D NEVER DO THAT!"
"YOU'VE FAKED THOSE FOR YOUR.............."
Up until two cloaked figures started trying to beat the hell out of the dude.

Fifi couldn't help a wild laugh at Cherry complement, if only she knew about the entire mud incident.. well the world would have had a very different view of Fifi LaRoux. "Oh you are too kind" she added so as to not offend her host (or more importantly the countless viewers at home).
"Please, call me Dominic.. and I really must admit that I myself am a terrible fan, your interview with Narcissa Malfoy was most enlightening". It was almost like watching good-cop/bad-cop only in this case both where playing for the love and devotion of a audience far removed from events as the camera focused on Cherry's reaction to the news of the gift.
"It really was of no trouble at all, you may have read that Ai recently visited Australia in order to see for myself the new enchantment collection from Matacore, and I couldn't go without mentioning a young woman Ai had met there, very shy but so much personality and Ai couldn't help but pay tribute to her choice of bows.. so consider a tip for your viewers, if you are in ever the need to give your outfit that little je ne sais quoi there really is not a better choice then to add a bow or two." Fifi smiled, she could almost hear the galleons dropping into her private vault at Gringotts at the plug for Richard Hobson. While it had once or twice been a thing of controversy Fifi had never been paid anywhere near the outrageous sums some had accused the Ministry to be giving her. Indeed much of her lifestyle was built upon her 'additional' duties of wearing the right thing at the right time and knowing just when and how to drop the name of a busnuess or product so that come tomorrow everyone who was anyone would want nothing more in the world then a robe from Matacore.. with as many bows as they could find of course!
Settling into the flow of the interview Fifi smirked at Cherry explained about the man, Nicci of course playing indifferent as he took a sip of his champagne and watched on. Fifi playing up for the camera moved herself to sit forward for a better look at this 'man', no doubt he wouldn't be anyone of interest but she had to keep her reputation after all. Of course Fifi had heard all about the rally but for the moment went along with Cherry to nod "it is no trouble, Ai am sure it must be difficult for others to compete against one such as yourself" Fifi stated as she narrowed her eyes to better see what it was that the fool Dunena Reid was playing at. Alas it wasn't a good angle and soon the picture moved to a running figure. Fifi was honestly shocked.. though her face showed none of it apart from a slight sharpness of her fingers digging into Dominic's back. It was him! Marty! but what was happening? "Yes.. Very.. cute" Fifi just said in a somewhat flat way, her heart wasn't in it anymore. Glancing up at Dominic he was too busy watching the footage to see her look wishing to get out of there.
She was just overreacting of course, and yet suddenly there was sound and Fifi watched as events unfolded, Marty yelling something into the camera before.. Fifi gasped, behind her Dominic swore in french. This was about to become a diplomatic mess as Fifi quickly spoke a babble of French to Nicci before returning to English to ask Cherry "Did you see that? We did hear that things in America where troublesome but Ai am so very sorry.. please excuse me but Ai cannot sit by and watch a innocent person be treated in such a horrific way!" With that Fifi was off running, leaving Dominic alone on camera with a serious expression as he looked on after her.
"I am most sorry, Fifi does have a very strong sense of duty, one we must guess seems to be lacking.. could we turn the volume up a little please.. I would have thought that even with such a small event as this that there would be some Aurors present.. but of course that is purely my personal opinion and being just a visitor to this country I have no doubt that Mr Frump knows best." Indeed, thanks to Cherry it was likely that the next week would show nothing but the footage of whoever the poor fool was that had ended up being attacked by the cloaked figures. Dominic didn't have to know or even care who or what was behind the attack, what he knew and cared about was how it made himself and his government look in comparison. Had he not been on camera Dominic might well have smiled at fortune playing to his hand. He was up for re-election next year and Frump.. well he'd always held a rather unsatisfying negative view of the French, no doubt with a little help it would be fortuitous to find someone a little more.. friendly towards their national agendas. Dominic was sure that it was only a case of waiting before Frump's house of cards would unravel and someone better suited would step into take charge.

From the comfort of his conference room, awaiting the arrival of the reporter who was going to interview him for The Global Voice, Frump watched events unfolding on the magical monitor in front of him, waiting for a moment when he could use the rally to his own advantage. Currently, Frump was toying with the idea of showing up at the right moment and "support" the ideals, that is until Dunena Reid held up a photo. Frump would probably not have minded had it been anyone else in that photo but that damned French troublemaker. Nor would he have minded till he heard the crowd's reaction begin to turn against him as Reid began to enter the Ministry. It was when Reid's people (or so it appeared from Frump's vantage point) tried to make it look like Frump was sending MLE out to berate the crowd that Frump lost what reason (if any) he ever had and began issuing orders like a madman
"Get those photos!"
"I don't care what it takes! Get those photos!"
"No way is that damned frenchie gonna succeed in bringing me down with her doctored photos!!!! "
One brave auror voiced a couple of questions about the man getting attacked.
"He's not our problem! GET THOSE PHOTOS!"
With that, the assembled MLE's headed for the conference room exit as a young woman who had entered just a few minutes ago stepped aside to avoide getting trampled. She had arrived just moments before the tirade began and her charmed digital recorder had recorded the entire outburst. "So, I believe we can quote you on that?" she asked Frump as a golden figure appeared on the screen before them.
And that is when it clicked.
"Gold... Gold!" she exclaimed as the realization hit her about those photos she'd been studying so intensely for so long. Greta knew the Global Voice photographers would be getting photos of it all. She concentrated on getting a statement from Frump. "So, what do you want to say to the people, Mr. Minister?"
With a snarl, Frump pushed past her and headed toward the Cherry Clinger Show.

"Ahhhhhhhh shit.........." was all Marty could get out as the first punch landed. His attackers could almost hear him sigh in resignation if they had been listening. He partially reverted to his high school days in Nutley and began covering sensitive areas and fighting back where he could. "Ugh" Yep that was going to leave a shiner came to his mind as someone's fist connected with his eye. So did the thought of how he was going to explain said new bruise to his boss when he went in the next morning to report his 'observations'.
He continued to try to yell above the need to defend himself that those photos were a lie. For some reason, despite the fact that he had no idea if she really would sleep around or not, Marty just could not see the woman he met in that field in Australia being so desperate as to settle for anyone like the man pictured with her, not that Marty had any idea who the guy was beyond some American rich guy who's photo was always in the society pages of the papers. Really, Marty was not sure why he had spoke up as he had but he had and he was dealing with the consequences now. "Hey!" he managed to shout towards the back of the leader of the rally who was now trying to get in some building. "Can't take the ......ow..... truth? Gotta sic your goons on me?"

One moment the whole thing had been going pretty damn good as far as Benjamin could tell the crowd seemed pretty on side and the equipment (which was his personal area of responsibility) was working so it was all cool. Had he been less tied up with thoughts about Meg he might have wondered if there was something fishy about all the folks with their faces hidden behind robes but this was New York, you didn't survive if you didn't know not to ignore things that where well.. a bit weird. "Man.. I dunno about messing with Cherry.. youknow she gets pretty wild and not in the good way if youknow what I mean" Benjamin warned Dunena, he didn't mind Cherry, she was a good lady but neither did Benjamin want Dunena to get on the wrong side of her.. she'd probably blame him after all. However he felt a bit better to see one of Cherry's cameramen emerge from the building to apparently film what was going on outside. Maybe that meant that she wasn't so mad about the whole thing after all? Benjamin was a optimistic soul, he'd never really got in with the whole cut-throat nature of the media.. mostly because his job was hardly one that people wanted, and over the years he'd proven good enough that for the most part folks just left him alone to do what he did best.. make radio.
He left it to his boss to do what he did best.. stew controversy, and man it was not taking long as Dunena showed him some picture.. Benjamin recognized Frump of course but the other woman he didn't have a clue.. "Whatever you say man" Benjamin just said with a shrug before falling back into the crowd which seemed to be getting more excited by the minute. Feeling a bit out of touch with the crowd Benjamin clapped along, showing support although he didn't much care one way or another.. his belief was that even if they got rid of Frump the next guy was going to be pretty much the same anyway.. so what was the point? Then.. everything changed.. "Ohshit.." Dunena was pushing into the crowd towards the Ministry and there was some shouting and before Benjamin knew it the crowd turned nasty. "Shit.. what the fuck!" one moment a voice had been yelling and the next Benjamin lost sight of the guy as a bunch of folks in hoods surrounded him. "Fuck fuck.. Dunena they're gonna kill this sonofa.. " Benjamin didn't know what to do.. the guys where wizards and he didn't even have any magic to defend himself! Benjamin had grown up in some of the more rough and tumble neighborhoods but he'd never seen a guy get jumped out of the blue like that in a crowd.
Shoving his way though Benjamin opened his mouth to say that it wasn't his boss's doing but as he reached to pull one of the guys who'd been bashing up the other guy away someone took a swing and before he knew it there was a sharp pain in the side of the head as he swore, "What the fuck was that for?" touching his forehead Benjamin felt blood and immediately put up his hands as he stepped back. "Dude..cool it.. I'ma squib.. you don't wanna hurt me man really.. I'm just doing me job.." it gave him just enough of a opening to duck under the guys arm and leg it towards Dunena.. because without his boss he sure as hell wasn't going to be finding another job anytime soon! Somehow he was pretty sure being part of a riot in front of the Ministry of Magic wasn't the best thing to have on his C.V, especially not one that resulting in getting the crap beaten out of him.

Dunena was rushing forward when he heard Squib boy yelling that someone was going to get killed. "What??" Dunena turned around and saw the hooded men jumping the scruffy haired man. "OH, you Guys! For that man now, let him speak" Dunena yelled down the mic forgetting the run on the MoM and Frump. He did not need them thinking that he did not care about his fans and the fact was, he liked a good debate with a person who ideas were different from his own.
When the two men did not back off, Dunena decided that he must do something and, not being a fighter and not being in complete charge of his senses as always he was high, so out with his 9 and 3/4 dark ebony wand and he threw a simple 'Stupefy' Stunning spell at one of the men. "I will not have this protest become a riot" Dunena told the crowd that had grown since he last looked there must be hundreds now. He turned the wand on the remaining man "Stop or I will use this again" Dunena was not the kind of man to let something happen when he could stop it.
"Release him and let him speak what he knows of Fifi and Mr Frump that so makes him want to charge to their defense so valiantly," Dunena noted at this time the aurors rushing from the building, not to the trouble but to him. So they have come for him or the photos, time to draw attention to them then. "Has the Lord and Master sent them to take these?" Dunena held the photo high again, Dunena was no longer sure where to point his wand. someone in the crowed yelled "You cannot stop that Dunena, free speech!" at that several wands were drawn and pointed at the MOM Auror "No longer will we be a pressed by your lies Frump" cried anothor. This is bad very bad
"No one fire unless fired upon please" Dunena hoped this would not become a big magical dual. Where had Squib boy gone? Dunena had not noticed the cameras or that the whole of the wizarding world was now watching him and his group.

Victoria McQueen rarely had her plans fail and she was determined that this was not going to be one of those rarities. Of course, one of those reasons was a multitude of back up plans including having her own connections within the Ministry itself. She sat at her table, issuing commands through text messages, starting with making sure that at least one or two of the Magical Law Enforcement people sent out were on her payroll. These commands were including the stopping of her own employee, Martin Harper and the order to make sure Dunena Reid pushed his way into the Ministry.
Oddly enough, she watched as help to stop Harper came in the form of the familiar red streak of light as the also aforementioned Reid threw a stunning spell at McQueen's two minions. Apparently, at least one of her minions noticed the spell being fired and swung his punching bag around as a shield. She resisted the urge to headdesk as the spell then hit not just Harper but the partner of the aforementioned minion with both Harper and Minion B each losing feeling in half of their bodies.
Issuing more instructions from her command center, more minions began interacting with the crowd, urging more vocal and vociferous protests toward Frump and the ministry while two of the Magic Law Enforcement officers who were also on her payroll headed to help her now 1.5 minions with Harper. Those in the crowd who were there on her orders were still working to fire up the crowd and continue the push into the Ministry that Reid had started
In the meantime, inside the ministry, one Ronald Frump was issuing his own orders and two aurors came from the press of MLE coming from the Ministry and stood between Dunena Reid and the crowd. "Come with us sir, Mr. Frump wishes your presence," both stepping forward, wands drawn to further cut off any direction for the radio host to head into the crowd, hoping he would not use his wand again but come quietly. They were unaware of the two others who were on double payroll at the moment, or the Golden Goddess coming from within the Ministry walls as well.
In the meantime, Frump was staring down Greta Greenwich who was staring right back waiting for an answer to her question. "No, Greta. I can call you Greta? This lowlife two knut radio host is not going to continue to preach his lies and untruths freely with no evidence to back him up. Nor will you print any of this! ANY of this! Is that clear?"

As Fifi spoke, while Cherry would probably never go into a Matacore, she was making a mental note that she would definitely be adding a few bows to her accessories, well except for the gorgeous dress and shoes that Fifi had gifted her with which were already perfect completely on the fact that Fifi had picked them out.
However, as the footage rolled, all thoughts of bows and fashion were gone as not only Fifi and Dominic but Cherry and her crew were appalled at the sight of that poor man that had only been standing there earlier getting beaten up.
Well, okay part of it on Cherry's part was the hell Dunena was creating on her time slot but as Fifi excused herself, Cherry nodded and said, "Of course, I understand" and continued watching with Dominic, perhaps moving a bit closer to the French Minister and signalling her sound man to increase the volume and whatever else the Minister asked for. "This is terrible!" she agreed as they continued to watch. While Dominic was figuring how this could assist in Frump's downfall, Cherry was considering ways to have this work on Dunena's downfall and/or drawing and quartering the radio show host for screwing with her live special. She heaved a heavy sigh at the turmoil showing on the monitor which resulted in the heaving of her best assets as well.

Fifi had never been one to think ahead very far, it was her instincts she ran on and those instincts where telling her that right now she needed to be on the street, kicking some thugs in the face. How could she possibly say no to that? Nicci would understand.. maybe but so too did she recall the camera footage and quickly pulled off her top to expose the one underneath and undid her hair as she ran though the maze of corridors and out to the lobby. she almost ran straight into one of the Auror's Frump had been dispatching to calm the whole thing down at the doors. There where two others standing blocking her way.. they where talking but really neither of them stood a chance. As a cry went up from one Fifi savagely kicked out at the other, she'd had no time to recover her wand from the security checkpoint and was forced to settle for something almost as lethal being the 3 inch spiked heels she was wearing. Ramming it into the soft tissue at the joint at the back of the man's knee he buckled in pain as Fifi totted, grabbing hold of the mans hair and reaching for his wrist in order to wrench his wand from his grasp.
Hopefully the camera was catching all of this... she hadn't gone to such effort for nothing after all! It was a exclusive all in itself to see Fifi LaRoux fight, few who had seen the petite french woman in action where able to belive that this was the same air headed partying Fifi LaRoux that the wizarding world knew and loved. Ignoring Dunena Reid for the moment Fifi turned the wand on the other Auror "Ai demand that you assist that man immediately.." Fifi stated bluntly as she pointed at Marty. Her heel was still firmly embedded in the groaning torso of the Auror who had the bad luck to get between her and what she wanted. It was too late though.. Fifi hadn't been listening to whatever Dunena Reid had been raving about, her attention was purely focused on one bleeding figure in the crowd. "Monsieur Reid.. Ai hope that you are very proud of yourself.." Fifi stated before turning her back on him and moving into the crowd which opened up as she stepped forward throwing curses at anyone who refused to move out of the way. Had it not been for the camera or the diplomatic incident it would have caused Fifi would have cursed the two thugs to death, but instead she tossed two Full Body-Bind Curse's before kicking them over and wrapping a arm around Marty to stop him losing his balance. "This poor poor man...Shh now... Fifi will not let anyone harm you.." Fifi said for the camera and yet in her heart there was a deeper hurt, the knowledge that in seeing what he had Marty was sure to have his memory modified and forget all about her again.
Meanwhile back on air Dominic was shamelessly flirting with Cherry as he adjusted his chair to be that much closer to the rather well endowed television host. "Of course it is true that like any true democracy we too have had our share of radical fringe groups trying to disrupt the good will that has lasted since the downfall of the Dark Lord. However we find that though proper representation and the just rule of law that such trouble makers are more likely to protest though proper means and are less likely to.. ohdear.. " even Dominic had to make pause at the sight of a curse missing it's target and hitting both the 'cute' man that Fifi seemed enamored to and one of the unsavory gentlemen who had started the scuffle. Where this to get any wore Dominic would be forced to consider retiring from the interview all together on security grounds. Preposterous of course but the American's where a jumpy lot and even a decade on the threat of terrorism lived on in a nation of paranoia.
It wasn't till a few seconds later that there was a bright shape slicing it's way though the crowd. Dominic was of course concerned that Fifi would take things too far but she was a exhibitionist after all. Why else would Dominic find her such use? There was a art to her violence as she first dispatched one of Frump's Auror's before trading a quick quip and moving into the crowd. A golden ray of hope against the darkness of the times she appeared before reappearing with the man who had caused all the trouble. "That's our Fifi" Dominic stated proudly before clapping, leading a applause at the image in his head, Tomorrow the papers and news would lead with the story of how the French Fifi LaRoux defeated the overbearing thugs of Frump to rescue a innocent Muggle from the arms of extremists. Or so was one way it could go, right now however everything was on edge, only experience was what allowed Dominic to give Cherry a cheeky wink before returning to take another sip at his champagne. It tasted all the sweeter for the fury he could imagine to be going though Frumps mind right now. Of course nobody knew that said Frump was taking a rather pro-active interest in ensuring that everyone would hear just what was on his mind.

Frump tore down the hallways and slammed open the door of the room that had been set aside for Cherry's live special to find Dominic Benoit sipping champagne with a very cheery Cherry sitting beside him, watching the goings on outside. Seeing the golden (in more than just dress sense) heroine of the moment, Fifi bearing a wounded Muggle, Frump snarled again before beginning his tirade.
"JUST WHAT DO YOU THINK YOU'RE DOING BENOIT! YOU STAGED THIS RALLY ON PURPOSE DIDN'T YOU? PAID THIS CREEP TO HAVE A RALLY AND MAKE ME LOOK BAD!"
Just as Greta ran into the room almost slamming into the raging American Minister's back. "No way!" she shouted. "No way this man could have set this up considering whoever doctored those photos did them to make Ms LaRoux look bad. Same person who tried to frame her with a crime too but they didn't bother to check out her fashion preferences!" Greta spoke up, the realization that none of the photos she had collected and searched through of one Fifi LaRoux every showed her wearing anything but yellow gold. Never silver. Never white gold. Oddly enough, the signed bill for the pair of earrings that Dunena Reid had found in his burned apartment bore the signature of a wizarding data entry specialist from Frump's own Ministry. Greta knew that poor girl's salary could not afford Cartier.

Marty wobbled along with one of the men holding him up as the other continued throwing punches. He was able to block a few still with one arm but the other arm had gone limp. "Shit! Novacaine!" was his only slightly mumbled comment, though he wondered how in the world they were able to inject it without him noticing but then again, he had been busy defending himself as well. Marty could hear shouting and cries for both stopping things and charging some Ministry or other. He couldn't remember any consulates in this area but then again, they weren't too far from the U.N. so anything was possible. Whatever that Occupy whatsis was going on about, apparently it had begun spilling over into other parts of the city which was the only reason Marty could figure that police hadn't shown up yet.
He was just about to tumble to the ground, sure he was imagining the French accent he heard and then deciding the protests must be at the French consulate when someone held him up and he recognized that voice. "Fifi.... Okay, I'm either dead or dreaming..." he mumbled out. "What are you doing at the French Embassy? Wouldn't have anything to counteract Novacaine would you?" Though it seemed to be wearing off a bit since he had only been hit with half a spell. "Come on, let's get out of here," he suggested hoping she wouldn't disappear on him just yet.

Benjamin might have always been more a lover then a fighter but he knew when things where going down that sometimes you just had to know when to get your head down and get the hell out of there. His boss however seemed to think he was impenetrable and Benjamin was left staring in horror as Dunena threw a spell and then went around holding his wand as if he might use it on anyone.. dude didn't know what the hell he was talking about, all that was needed to turn even the most peaceful crowd into a mob was one threat of someone getting their head bashed in. It was obvious things where turning for the worse as the shouting got louder, somehow the crowd had grown.. partly from reinforcements and just as much from the news that Cherry was broadcasting from within the Ministry. It was a hotbed of mixed feelings and unsurprising that things went bad almost immediately as his boss' spell missed (Benjamin had known that his boss wasn't on the level but he'd not realized he was that far off to be tossing around spells like that). Man they where gonna get in so much shit for this... that was if they survived of course as while Dunena was busy holding up pictures Auror's starting appearing and fights where breaking out amongst the crowd.
It was all getting too real for Benjamin, half way up the stairs he was stopped as one of the Auror's blocking his road keeled over backwards. Benjamin was left to oggle as a wild mess of gold and blond hair laid out the Auror before speaking.. Benjamin couldn't believe it! He had no recollection for faces but a voice he would remember to the ends of the earth. "You crazy bint.. DUNENA.. DUNENA IT'S HER!!" He had to yell to get his voice above the crowd but jumping and pointing was about all he could do until one of the remaining folks still on Frumps payroll grabbed him by the scruff on the neck and tried to pull him away. "Get off me man.." Benjamin said kicking the guy in the peaches before making a wild dash towards the woman who'd been harrasing them on the air for months.
"Man this is fucking wacked.." the whole thing didn't make any sense to Benjamin at all. One moment there had been shit all folks and the next there where easily a hundred and in the midst of it the crazy frenchwoman who'd just took out a full grown Auror and two big guys to boot. She really was nuts.. and what the hell was she wearing? Whatever was going on there was no question that the dude really had taken a beating. "Hey man.. " Benjamin said as he ran up to see what was going on. He probably should have been paying more attention to the Crazy bint but he couldn't help a oww face at the guys bruses "Boss will probably wanna have a few words with ya man.. what the hell made you wanna run out like that anyway? Didn't anyone ever tell you not to mess with folks who could smash ya face in?". Just then his phone started buzzing again.. "Dammit Meg" Benjamin hit the button to hang up, didn't she know he was busy right now trying to calm a riot and avoid getting his arse put in jail for it? Little did he know that the missing bit of the puzzle was broadcasting on WWBN-Channel 69 right now and he was out on the street missing the whole damn thing.

Dunena was very confused by all this stuff. What had happened to the quiet civil disobedience he had hoped for? Now, it was well on the way to being a riot and a very dangerous one at that. Aurors and Merlin knows how many poorly trained wizards at his back and well him, too, and he could duel with the best when not too smashed but today, he was too far gone to be of any real use, as shown by the fact he had only half hit his target earlier.
The woman he knew, as almost every one is his profession if you could call his job that knew, as Fifi LaRoux. It was then he heard Bjay, the squib boy, yell she was the crazy bint that had annoyed him for months with those calls to his show. Then squib boy was trying to stop her and the scruffy haired man from getting away. "LaRoux, have you got a comment on the photos and the calls to my show you made over the last few months?"
Dunena was going to make a move toward her but the aurors were blocking the way, their wands still drawn saying, "Come with us sir. Mr. Frump wishes your presence," Dunena looked the pair up and down. "And if i decline this request?" Dunena felt he needed to challenge them at least once. He was far more interested in speaking with LaRoux and the unnamed man with the hair than that stuffed shirt Frump. "Why is it that when I want to go in you stop me and when I would rather stay outside, you want me in side? I am really hoping that Frump is far more decisive when it come to MOM business than he is about his love life." Dunena hope the lighthearted comment would help relieve the tension. It did not really work as more cries from the now well-armed crowd came out, wands ready.
"Why not come here and face us?" one yelled.
"You scared?" anther yelled.
"We could come in and take you down!" A far away voice cried.
"We don't need you, Frump!" the cry rose from the group and became a resounding roar as they become more ingrained with the mob mentality that now existed in the group.
"Tell your boss I feel it would not be with in his best interest for me to leave this crowd at this time as it seems to be held by my tenuous control and would not advise him coming here, either" Dunena advised the man standing closet to him.
"People, lets just calm down. If we become violent here, we will all land ourselves in jail and then our voices will not be heard. We must regain control of our selves and this meeting before it gets out of control. Please, I beg you remember we are the light and if we continue on this path we will be no better that the EVIL!" pointing the MOM personnel "That we fight, we Fight for the light , let start by lowering the wands" dunena begin to lower his wand.

There was a collection of screens on both Victoria McQueen's iPhone and her iPad that monitored all the goings on below, as well as the bird's eye view she had from her private rooftop dining room. For the center of the action around Marty, Fifi and Dunena, she really only needed the sound to be sure of what she was hearing. Maurice reverted to serving her a snifter of brandy rather than the cab sauv she had been drinking with her steak tartare she had been dining on when all hell broke out.
McQueen watched as the two aurors sent to arrest Marty ended up demolished by one Fifi LaRoux, snarling as Marty was assisted in standing by the young hit witch in question. At the same time, she was watching and listening to Frump accosted by that 'thinks-she-knows-it-all-reporter' Greta Greenwich and then charge through the Ministry and suddenly appear on the part of the screen monitoring the Cherry Clinger Show.
"Mounted, in there now!" she commanded to one of her people before switching to another line and telling them, "You cannot let Harper tell Reid about those photos. Get him!"
She watched as mounted New York City police began arriving, using their horses to push the rowdy crowd back from the Ministry of Magic and away from Reid, who was apparently the center of attention. She stopped and stared as the audio from that window was the sound of Marty Harper commenting to the aurors trying to take Dunena Reid into the Ministry before turning their attention to Marty as well. "Looks like you also have to compensate for the nightstick," He snapped at them as McQueen debated once again to headdesk. "We are not amused," she muttered staring at the night suddenly gone off in all directions. Marty was continuing to yell out to Reid about how he should be ashamed of taking something that started out peaceful on Wall Street and stirring up all this violence here.
It was at that point she suddenly smiled as two Muggle law enforcement arrived to stake their claim and began reading Martin Harper his Miranda warning.
