So You Want to Work in the Movies!
Fri Sep 02, 2011 9:08 pm
The morning had started off rather well for Polly. She had already tallied the receipts of the previous night and made the bank deposit and since the new round of movies had just started the other night, did not have to worry about changing posters today. The concession stand had been cleaned up well the night before by the closing attendant and for now, she was free to wander through the various cinemas making sure all was well in them. Actually, she was waiting on the arrival of a young woman who had been one of a few that had come by at various times and filled out applications for positions at the cinema. With the sudden departure of the one ticket booth attendant and another who had left the area for university, Polly had looked over some of the applications and contacted the young woman for an interview, which was scheduled in five minutes.

Adrienne, who had a pre-scheduled meeting with the assistant manager of Kingsley's Cinema, had dressed in a pair of black jeans, a pale yellow blouse, a pair of two inch white heels and had pulled her hair up into a pony tail. She looked in the mirror and made sure she looked at least mildly presentable and was on her way, arriving at the appropriate destination with three minutes to spare.
She looked around and quickly found the person she was looking for, Polly O'Brien. She kept an excited but polite smile on her face as she made her way over to the Cinema Assistant Manager.
"Good day to you, Miss O'Brien." She said. "I do hope I'm not late." She added, truly meaning it. What if they had different times and she was officially late in Miss O'Brien's?

((ooc: She's only assistant manager bic))
Polly heard the front doors to the cinema open and turned to see a young girl entering. The first thing she did was observe both the girls manner of dress and carrying herself. The outfit was rather similiar to what the uniform dress for the employees was which pleased Polly. It meant that the girl either had done her 'homework' to find out about that or just tended to wear that style. Either way, it lead Polly to believe she'd have no problems with this person over the
uniforms. The girl was also smiling and a bit early, both good in Polly's book. She returned the smile as the girl greeted her. "Good day to you as well and no," Polly replied, "You are a bit early which is good. Come in to the office, " she invited, leading the way and when the girl was settled, began. "I've looked over your application but tell me a bit about yourself that' s not covered in the questions," Polly asked her.

((ooc: sorry bout that ))
She was early! And it pleased her interviewer! She did a small happy dance inside her head, happy to have made at least a good first impression. Adrienne followed Miss O'Brien into her office nervously. This was her first interview, and she wanted nothing more than make the best possible impression she could.
'Not on the application..? Hm, would she mind if I repeated some of the things on there?' She thought frantically to herself, though she made sure to keep a straight face.
"Well... My name's Adrienne Leveque, I'm seventeen years old and am currently attending Gippsland Grammar School for Young Witches. I like to play my guitar in my free time, and when I'm not, I'm usually watching a movie or two here, actually." She racked her brain for anything else to say, but couldn't quite find any, so she just smiled hopefully at Miss O'Brien, hoping she would just ask questions so that Adrienne could answer them.

As Polly waited for the girl to answer the question presented, she also sat back and watched Adrienne and how she acted. Nothing in the girl's behaviour as she thought for a bit and then began talking about herself was out of line. So far, so good, Polly thought to herself and listened as the girl gave some basic information about herself. Guitar... Movies.. Yes, Polly did recognize having seen Adrienne going through the lobby or purchasing tickets occasionally. This was also good, as the girl was familiar with the cinema itself. "What kind of movies do you usually enjoy, Adrienne?" she asked, as well as, "And your favorite movie or movies of all time?"

"Oh I have to say my taste in movies is usually affected by my current mood. Say, I'm feeling a little down and under the weather, I tend to go for the romantic comedies, and when I'm feeling a little bored and restless, a good horror movie is a good way to shake me out of it." She bit the inside of her cheek in thought. "I'll have to say that my favorite movies of all time are Pride and Prejudice, Child's Play, and the X-Men Movies." Adrienne waited anxiously for any sign of approval/disapproval from Miss O'Brien, and tapped her fingers lightly on her lap as she fidgeted a bit. Her nervousness was beginning to show, and it wasn't a good thing - in her opinion, that is.

Well, based on the girl's range of movies she enjoyed, it seemed she would not get bored with many of the selections that showed at Kingsley Cinema. Polly nodded as she listened, making a couple of notes on the margins of the application in front of her. She noticed the girl was nervous but then again, so had she been on her own first interview. Wait, correct that. On pretty much any interview she ever went on of any kind so it was understandable that another person would be too. Polly had to smile at the three favorite movies the girl listed. Definitely had to admit they were varied.
Once the girl finished, Polly began to explain the two positions open and what the jobs entailed. The ushers would check tickets, assist patrons with directions or other questions or situations, clean up each cinema between viewings and sort of patrol around during movies. Concession stand attendant would, of course, man the concession stand as well as setting up if opening or cleaning up if closing, stocking, letting her know if items needed ordering. Once she had explained the two positions, she asked Adrienne, "Have you given any thought to which you might prefer doing? Or feel better equipped to handle?"

Adrienne didn't really prefer one over the other, but she guessed that the Usher position would be better for her. With that thought in mind, she smiled as she replied, "I think I'd be best as an Usher, Miss O'Brien. I like interacting with people and helping them out, so I do think that that would help me a great deal in that aspect." She bit her lower lip nervously, wondering if this meant she got the job. It maybe a little too early to tell, but this was her first interview, so she wasn't really sure what to expect...

"Well, both involve interacting with others and helping in a way but, yes, the usher does do more of it," Polly told her. "Of course, there will be times you might be pulled to work another position if we're unexpectedly shorthanded or have special events," she warned the girl so Adrienne would be prepared. "But I believe you'll do quite well in that position," she told her with a smile. "Now, when do you think you could start and are there any hours you're not available due to school commitments?" She asked Adrienne, definitely smiling as she made the hiring official and, should their be any doubt in the girl's mind added, "And what would you prefer on your name tag? Adrienne? Or do you have a short form of it you use more often?"

Adrienne nodded at Miss O'Brien's words, still a little shocked that she had been accepted. "I can start as soon as needed, Miss O'Brien, and I've no extra-curricular school activities, actually, so I can pretty much come after school, unless I'v been asked to stay, in which case I'll be sure to inform you through some of the various methods of communication possible." She said honestly. Adrienne didn't quite know what to put on her tag actually, but decided that keeping her wholoe name would be fine. "Adrienne is just fine, Miss." She answered, and she couldn't help the big grin on her face.
